MGA appoints Brincat as new CEO
The MGA said Brincat was selected after “a highly competitive selection process” after it launched a public call for applications on 17 December.
“It is an honour to be selected to lead the organisation at such a critical juncture for the MGA and the industry alike,” Brincat said. “I am proud of the work that has been done by the Authority so far in raising regulatory standards and committed to ensuring that we continue along this path.
“However, it is essential that we cultivate stronger partnerships with other regulators and stakeholders, and the industry itself, to achieve a regulatory environment that accomplishes the MGA’s objectives as set out in the law in the most effective, transparent, and proportionate manner.”
Brincat joined the MGA in 2014 as a legal advisor and held a variety of legal roles before becoming chief legal and enforcement officer in 2019. Prior to joining the MGA, he worked at law firm Emmanuel Mallia & Associates.
Brincat is a member of the board of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, as well as a member of the International Association of Gambling Regulators (IAGR).
Farrugia announced that he would step down from the chief executive role in October 2020, after being appointed in April 2018.
